Gabapentin is a structural analogue of gamma-aminobutyric acid (endogenous inhibitory neurotransmitter). Gabapentin is widely accepted for the treatment of epilepsy. Gabapentin is indicated for the treatment of peripheral neuropathic pain such as painful diabetic neuropathy and post-herpetic neuralgia in adults. It was originally developed as a novel anti-epileptic for the treatment of certain types of seizure.
